On a fine flavour cocoa plantation, only fine flavour cocoa should be cultivated in order to avoid mixing with other cocoa. Only plantations near the equator, in warm and humid tropical areas, offer the best conditions for fine flavour cocoa to develop its unique aroma. Various factors determine the quality and character of the varieties here. Cultivation under shade trees, together with other plants, is beneficial. In this way the tree is better protected against diseases and pest.
