Cocoa flowers grow from so-called flower cushions on the older wood. This phenomenon is also called "cauliflory" in botany and is a special feature of the cocoa tree.
In total, the cacao tree produces up to 70,000 flowers per year. From these, about 30-60 cacao fruits develop. The tree flowers all year round, but there is a main season and a low season.
