Theobroma cacao L.

In English »food of the gods«. The Mayas believed that the cocoa drink - prepared from water, cocoa, vanilla and pepper - which was very popular with them, belonged to the gods. Therefore Carl von Linné gave the cocoa tree the biological name: »Theobroma cacao L.«(from Greek θεός theos ›God‹ and βρῶμα broma ›food‹).
