Dark chocolate

As »dark chocolate« only chocolate with a cocoa content of 50 % or more is designated. Between 50 % and 70 % we are talking about dark or semi-dark chocolate, from 70 % on it is pure »dark chocolate«. Because pure dark chocolate does not use milk, it is suitable for lactose intolerant or vegan people.

Many chocolate connoisseurs believe that dark chocolate has the only legitimacy to exist, because in their opinion only a high cocoa content should define the term »chocolate«. Cocoa lovers tend to go back to »fine or flavoured cocoa« chocolates. For their production only rare types of cocoa full of character are used.

Dark chocolate also many positive properties are discussed: e.g. a stimulating effect because it contains theobromine and caffeine. Also alkaloids are expected to help to reduce stress and increase mental and physical performance. Furthermore, dark chocolate is said to restrain the appetite. Dark chocolate also has a soothing effect on chesty cough. This is due to the theobromine it contains. The alkaloid blocks a brain nerve responsible for the coughing stimulus
